Backfires can be caused by a lot of things, and most commonly its too much fuel or a timing problem.  That was my problem when I had some bad backfires.  But then again, I run a carburetor.  Check the easy things first.  How do your spark plugs look?  Black, brownish, or wet?  Is your timing steady?  Your timing chain could be worn and cause your timing to fluctuate, especially at high rpm.  Check the gear at the bottom of your distributor.  Just be careful when you do this, because if you put it back in and miss a tooth your timing is going to be off.  Which isn't hard to fix, just a pain sometimes.

Hey thanks tony, i looked at the spark pugs and changed them out, they didn't look bad but some carbon. Also i have been running way too rich, so i also put a new o2 sensor since mine was non operational bc well the thing got ripped out the last time i wheeled around my front drive shaft. A closer look and i discovered a small crack in my header that i just bought!!!! maybe this could be a problem! thanks for the suggestions.

Pacesetter Performance header kit, i called them and they said it must have been from shipping, or something, but they gave me a full refund after i have to send it back. and they said they will be shipping another one out soon, for a very nice discount might i add. Pacesetter does make some great products though thats why i didnt check the headers bc they where brand new. Pain though, atleast i didnt throw away my old stock header.Cool
