When one needs to be replaced, do you have to replace the entire hub assembly, or can you just replace the bearing itself?

OK, so I see that you need to replace the whole hub. Can anyone reccomend a good brand? I see some listed for composite rotors. I did not think anything but steel was used except on high end sports and racing cars. Autozone has Timkin for $86. Is this ok?

Sounds like a good price to me. Â I recently bought one for my truck for 150 from Precision. Â Really easy to replace; if you can do brakes, you can do a hub assembly.

The Timkin comes with a three year warranty so I trust it is good stuff, right? Some others I saw online, only have one year warranties.

Timken for the win!
It is an easy job if the assembly will come out, in the salt belt they tend to vet rusted in there pretty good. A big socket or bolt can be used to wedge between the knuckle and the bearing and turn the steering wheel to pop the shaft and bearing out. Use tons of antisieze when replacing.

i suggest a lil heat and a long breaker bar.Â
also for popping the bearing off, you can use a short 1/2" extention and the steering pressure to push out the bearing its self once you get that far. Its a extremely good trick!

I don't know if you still need one or not. But I have a pair of timkin 99&1/2 front hubs with about 3000 miles on Them. They were a package deal with a bunch of other hp d30 parts I bought. However I have a 98 which used a different brake rotor so I can't use these. If your interested hit me up. Otherwise good luck on the swap.
Oh and make sure you have nice tight fitting 12 point 13mm socket for the hub to knuckle bolts. They can be pretty tight with rust and a worn out socket can easily round the head of the bolts off.

It turned out that I didn't actually need them, but I might like to have newer ones around for an eventual upgrade. How much?
