With an XJ i believe the rear shaft is long enough where you can get away with not doing a tcase drop.  Shim the rear axle and point the rear pinion either at, or just below the tcase out put if you do get vibes.  If going over 3.5"s i would just avoid the tcase drop and get an SYE kit, and a new rear driveshaft and do it right the first time.

2002 Toyota Tacoma extended cab TRD, V6, 5spd. OME 882s, winch, sliders, skids, 255/85/16 BFG KMS, Marlin/inchworm Dual transfer cases with 4.7:1 gears. 12:1 Rules!! Still in all of its IFS glory!!

good advice,  I will just have to bite the bullet and do the SYE and Tom Woods…I did that on my tj and was pleased so I best do it the same way to avoid problems on the trail…thanks guys

When my XJ was at 4.5 I got away with the t-case drop and 3 degree shims. Had a slight vibe at 30mph but that was it, no biggie. At 6.5 I went with the SYE. For the rear shaft I went to the bone yard and found a TJ or YJ front drive shaft. Go buy yourself an angle finder if you dont have one already. It was my best buddy when I was lifting the XJ. According to write ups the pinion needs to be 2 degrees below the driveshaft. I'm at 3 and no vibes.

If you plan on staying at 3.5 for a while I'd throw that 300.00 bills at something else. Buy some rock rails. I know its not my money. Just my opinion.

hey, any and all input is what I wanted…the more different angles you can look at something, the better you can make an educated guess and typically get a better result.(or at least one you can live with)
