With my 3" lift on the way, I was wondering if I will need to drop my transfer case. I know that usually 4.5" and higher requires a SYE, but is that after a TC drop anyway? I just want to be prepared for the next step if I get vibrations.
Thanks
Carl

What kind of Jeep do you have Carl? My gf and I just installed the 2.5 lift on my TJ last night and afterwards I experience some vibrations…feels like its the driveshaft, but I didn't install the transfer case drop kit. I might do that right now…but anyway. If you've got a TJ, chances are you'll have to do the drop with anything around 3" or more..

Since this is in the XJ tech, I'm going to say you have an XJ. I have installed lifts on both Wranglers (CJ, YJ and TJ) along with two lifts on an XJ, both were Tims, he might even have a write up on his cardomain. XJ's have a longer wheelbase then the wranglers, and you can get away without dropping the T-case with a three inch lift. Plus, if your XJ is a little rusty that T-Case can be a bear to get down with the funny bolts they put in there. However, every vehicle is a little different and there are some variable between different companies 3" lift kits. I would skip it for now and drive around for awhile and see if you need it, I'm betting your not going to.

Thanks for the replies everyone. Yes it's an XJ, and a Rusty's 3" spring pack kit. Sorry for not explaining. Like I said, I am just trying to be prepared to minimize downtime.

Mine started to have vibes as soon as I did my budget boost. It really depends on the year for the xjs. the earlier ones seam to be more forgiving with the lifts, and the later ones seam less tolerable to them.
you dont really know until its lifted

What size bolts are used for the TC? I'd like to get some large washers to use as spacers as I have heard some people do. If any are needed, I will not have to loose a full one inch of ground clearence.

I wanna say 7/16x2"x24course??? but im not sure. if its still stock, there is studs that will probally need to be backed out and replaced with a regular bolt. and maybe retapped
now if you willing to spend some time looking through a junkyard. I believe you can pull a front shaft out of a xj, buy an advanced adapters regular sye, and you could have it done for under $300. Or there are hack and tap solutions for cheap as well if you wanna keep the ground clearance.
since every jeep is different for the tc vibes. Personally I would have a TC drop (what ever the combination) waiting to go on after the 3" lift is done, and take it for a test drive and see if you get any vibes. If you do, obviously the drop would go on. If you dont, well then you get to keep all that lovely ground clearance.
I have the 1" drop blocks sitting in my garage if your interested to have it, you would just need new bolts for it.

Mitch
Ill take the blocks off your hands if you know you don't need them. I might be doing the lift this week, so when could I meet up with you?

I've run a one inch drop with about 3 inches of lift for a year and a half or so and I've had no vibes. Crossmember bolt holes were helicoiled in so now the drop is welded to the uniframe and the crossmember is bolted to that. I'll run an SYE when I get the money, not on the top of my list.
