I have the same Teraflex bracket on mine and it works pretty good, if I remember correctly you do have to drill a hole so the antenna is grounded.

Well I didn't want to add the extra hole either to avoid rust. So I sanded the back of the bracket around the three mounting holes for the tail light then lightly sanded around the tail mounts in the tub put silcone around the outside of the sanded area and bolted it together. I did manage to get a solid ground and got the SWR down to about 1.3 which is almost perfect. The bad part was the wind pushed my 4 foot K40 whip around enough the bracket started to loosen up. So to help support it I ended up drilling that hole and adding a bolt anyway.

Jeff; Don't sweat it. Been there, trust me. You know I was recently reminded that you can't just slap a cv shaft in on a Rubi either — you also have to swap the rear upper control arms to get the rear angle correct.
Guys, I also have that Teraflex tail light bracket (right hand side) and it was a PITA to install the first time. I did drill the hole too. So after Jeff advised me of some possibilities with the CB issues I am having, I removed the bracket, then ground (on a bench grinder) the backside and went to reinstall it. This time I could only get one of the three tail light screws to grab into the tub sheet metal?! Hard as I tried I couldn't get it to mount behind the tail light, so I cut the bracket on my table jig saw (metal blade) and discarded the bracket part that went behind the tail light. I've now got it installed just by the "top hole" which I originally drilled. Made me wonder why Teraflex didn't design the bracket to work that way to begin with? With that said, I still have ground issues (I believe it's a ground issue since my horn still comes thru the CB speaker) and I hope I didn't make things worse by cutting the bracket??
Fwiw, I am switching from the current fire ring coax (antenna) connection to a PL259 coax (clear cable coax). I also have the CB ground wire screwed into the firewall (engine compartment) and think I may need to extend the ground wire down to somewhere on the chassis. If that doesn't help, I guess I'll be looking for idea's on mounting either my Firestik FL4 on the bumper or replacing that antenna with a whip style (also mounted to the rear bumper).
Bottom line, CB's suck and if I didn't need one for the trails, I wouldn't own one.

Im not sure how old the antenna is, but i know its YEARS old, and came off my dads semi. Remind me on Sat if i can make it, and i'll show ya the mount

Jerry – if you deep 6 the teraflex mount and go for the bumper you'll need a top load antenna. If you don't use a top load your get a ton of reflection off of the tail gate and your SWR will be all over the place. THere is another test you can do to see if the noise if coming from your antenna or power leads. Disconnect the coax at the radio – turn on the CB and give the horn a toot. Remember to NOT key up the mic with the antenna disconnected – the lack of a load will smoke your finals faster than Cheech does a doobie. If you still hear the horn static over the CB just as loud as before the noise is coming from the power leads – if the static is less or completely goes away it is coming from the antenna lead. Some CB's won't perform while doing this test – if they sense the lack of antenna load they automaticly mute or even shut down to protect themselves.

Sorry Joe it seems as we have hijacked your thread…
I have a extra mount that will work on the bumper and I'll bring a choke too. If we can make it to the meeting I'll bring them along – otherwise I'll have them at the badlands. I may have a funeral to go to on Saturday – waiting for the family to decide when to have it.
