Hey everybody, I'm Joe and i get stuck it the mud. A lot. Oh well at least me and my girl have a group to wheel with! AWSOME!!! Well i suppose u might like to know a little about me. I have an 05 Jeep Wrangler Willys edition. unfortunately the Willys package is no way as cool as a Rubicon package, but what is? Its pretty much stock for now (arnt they all). I have a Banks cold air, and 31 9.50 15 TSL Swampers. Coming soon is a Smittybuilt bolt in roll cage (safety first, and it will make a sweet overhead mounting spot for my CB.) then on to my Quadratec series ARB bumper with a Smittybuilt Xrc 10 winch. That will prob call for some bad booty kc lights and a duel optama yellow top battery. Then a tummy tuck. What the hell were the Jeep engineers thinkin when they designed a skid plate/ shovel combo??! Down the road, or trail, I would love a Rubicon express 4-6" lift. I have some other projects to get back on the road. Ones been with me since high school. It actually was my high school graduation present to myself in 1997. A 1971 Plymouth 340 Duster that I grenaded the motor on many many years ago, and she's sat too long! Oh well Ive had many a fun car while the Duster sat patiently while other non MoPars came and went. Well, I'm very excited to have joined Ur club, and cant wait to hit the trail again. I don't think I can come to the badass badlands weekend, but i might try for at least one day. I saw in the new issue of Petersons that June 11-13 ? there's a Jeep Jamboree at the badlands as well…..

Hi Joe, I take it you were the TJ Willy's at the Cliff's last weekend?
So how long until you get around to installing the SB roll cage add-on kit? I've been interested in that kit too and have followed some forum talk (elsewhere) where opinions strongly differ. I know, go figure, right? Anyway since you're local and now a member, I'll be interested to get your thoughts (after your first roll-over, just kidding!) on the quality of the kit.
Anyway, welcome to the club!

Yes sir, that was me. All upgrades ,of coures, come as fast as my checkbook recovers, or I sell my Ram. What have u heard about the sb roll cage? if its crap i would rather find out before im hoping it will hold the Jeep off me and my passanger!!! i might have to go back to the rock hard option. I was trying to avoid painting the thing. I have been debating on winches too. The Xrc seems like a good buy for limited use…. heard anything good/bad on the Xrc? Thanks for ur feedback.
Also, If ur who i think u are u had a rough country 2.5 lift ur sending back? Did u? Would u be intrested in selling it?
I have limited computer access, so if i dont get back for awhile, sorry!

As for the SB cage, I read posts (either on Pirate4x4 or JeepForum.com??) everything from people whining SB stole the idea from Hard rock, to some not sure about the quality of the kit because it is from SB, to one or two people wrote they plan to install it. At the time (about a month or so ago, when I read this ) no one had actually installed the kit.
As for the XRC, the first generation winches (if you will) I read various reviews from people who own(ed) them the hardware on SB winches is not stainless steel and it rusts quickly. I've also read (on forums) it's not the fastest winch on the market. Mind you these were basically pertaining to XRC 8 and XRC 10 winches. More recently I've read a few write-up's in 4Wheel Drive & SUV Magazine where they installed the current versions of a XRC 8 and or XRC 10 on various vehicles and didn't really say how impressed they were with the winch. So I don't know how good the current models actually are? Fwiw, when I get around to buying a winch, I am pretty sure I will go with the Warn 9.5 XP model. It's suppose to be one of, if not the best winches made. It also is suppose to be hands down the fastest winch available anywhere – and the price tag shows it. $$$$. (Mind you, I will be installing a winch on a aluminum bumper).
As for the RC lift I bought, after talking to RC (first whoever answered the phone and then the boss (J.R.), I was told I will get 2" from the kit with stock bumper & no extra weight (ie; winch, etc) — So I decided keep it — for now. I told him if I don't get at least 2", I'm sending it back. Fwiw, the reason I won't get 2.5" is because the D44's on a Rubicon are .5" inches taller than all other TJ models. In your case, you would get 2.5" out of that lift. As for durability and thoughts from someone who has been running this lift, I recommend you contact DDO member Jeff Knutter.
Hey, no problem with replies.
- Jerry

Welcome to the forum, it was nice meeting and wheelin' with you and Amanda at the Newbie run. Hope to see you guys at the Badlands, me and Ebeth will only be there on Saturday but it should be a great time.
Yes mods never seem to end.
I have the RC 2.5 it works pretty good for the price. I have read good and bad about the XRC winches, I almost pulled the trigger but ended up spending more and getting the Superwinch EPi9.0S, Rokmen had a killer deal last year that i couldn't pass up.
Next I am going to do a BL and MML as the start of my tummy tuck but that wont happen till after Badlands.
Hope to wheel with you again soon.

We had a blast with you guys two. Im glad that Amanda has someone to talk with whlie im tryng to get out of whatever hole I thought I could get through! Were going to try to meet up with everyone on Sat 8May as well. Hope to see u and Elizabeth and all my new wheeling friends. If im able to get to the badlands it will only be for sat, Im out of vaca time at work for the quarter already. What area are u coming from? maybe if i can get all my crap in line I might try to cruise out there w u. Ive never been to the badlands, and saw that they rent rhino's and quads. I might rent something so Amanda and I can both drive. But if i drive my Jeep all the way to Indiana and dont get to wheel it, im gonna be pissed. I might take my ma's Liberty out. Better gas mileage and ive been lookin for an excuse to get it dirty.
Looking through some product specs , and oddball pointed it out as well, Sb doesn't use s.steel, but Rugged Ridge dose. I have to find someone with a rugged ridge to see how they like it. Let me know how ur tummy tuck works out. Planning on doing the work yourself?
Hope to see u on the 8th!

Not sure if we can make the 8th for the meeting, may be a last minute decision.
We live in West Chicago, so we could meet up somewhere on 355 South or I-80.
I will be doing the tummy tuck myself but not sure when i will get all the parts. 1st the BL and MML, then the control arms, then SYE and finally the UCF skids. Hopefully before the summer is over I can have it all done.

Not too far from West Chicago, so if u need an extra pair of hands, or someone to get in the way, Im more than willing to try to help. Just let me know. Boy im gonna look like a schmuck but ive been staring at BL and MMl and SYE, but cant make them register in my mind. What? Im sure as soon as i find out what they are it will make perfect sense. LOL.

Joe,
BL = Body Lift.
MML = Motor Mount Lift.
BMML = Budget Motor Mount Lift (spacer blocks used with original motor mounts).
SYE = Slip Yoke Eliminator. (Note; I believe Rubicon's are the only TJ model that doesn't utilize SYE).

Jerry, you midtyped – all TJ Rubicons have a SYE - not sure about other models with a D44 rearend. I mean I don't know if the SYE was a D44 option or a Rubicon option.
Joe,
Nice to see you are now a member, Welcome! I was in the group of Jeeps that "Hooked" up with you and your girl at the Cliffs.
Another common one is BB = A Budget boost is basiclly 4 spacers (typically 2 inches) added to the top of the coil springs to give you a quick lift.

Rubicons do not require an SYE, just a double-cardan driveshaft. They do
not have a slip yoke to begin with. And if your's does, something's amiss.

You are correct sir and I appologize – I guess I'm the one that mis-typed… That is what I get for posting from work and rushing out to do a job between reading posts. Your statement of not utilizing a SYE was confusing so what I meant to say is Rubi's don't have a slip yoke and mistakenly typed SYE instead.
Sorry for the confusion

Thanks Jeff. I remember u and ur Rubi from the first time i ran w DDO. Another great day. A very long, muddy, but fun day. I saw ur CB antenna bracket while we were out. Is that a custom job, or the Quadratec S.steel bracket?
Thanks again,
Joe
