Hello there! My name is Chris Wilson, I am 18 years old and recently purchased my OWN XJ. My dad got tired of me breakin things on his ZJ, so I thought I shold buy my own. Anyways, I have been talking to Mattew Evans on facebook and he told me I should check out the site and post up in the forums.

About me: As you see, I am 18 years old, 20 days away from finishing high school. I started getting into cars fairly young, about the same time I started getting into Jeeps. When I would help my dad work on his '51 CJ3a. My friends talked me into going mudding with them once, so I took out the stock ZJ. From that point on I knew my new hobby.

About my Rig: 2001 Jeep Cherokee XJ. I6 4.0L. 4.5" Rubicon Express lift. 32" BFG All Terrains (soon to be 31" Toyo Open Country M/T's) 15" Dick Depek wheels. Few audio upgrades. Currently working on getting front and rear recovery points and a CB.

I would love to join your guys's club. I'm looking forward to meeting you guys and seein your rigs. Im planning on being at the Cliffs on the 10th. If you see me, be sure to say hi. You cant miss my jeep. Its the mall crawlin lookin XJ. And fell free to add me if you guys are on facebook, I would love to chat!

Toyos are gonna run me abuot $125 + tax. No other fees. even to have them mounted balanced etc… IM planning on being there in the 24th. I gotta get the heep up to snuff though. Getting a rear hitch on saturday. Looking at other options for front recovery. $100 for front brackets is a little crazy in my opinion. And I'm not quite at the wheelin stage to upgrade the front bumper to anything crazy yet. But Im going to walmart and lookin at CB's and may order 2 3ft whips to mount on the sides of the rear bumper. There is a lot of money I need to spend just me meet DDO's minimum requirements. :(

look at the requirements as something to strive for. you should have a spare. cb is kinda difficult to set up if you dont know what your doing, so you can get help with that

the 3 extraction points are pretty much standard for most parks, so those should be high on the list.

and a spare is a good Idea

and welcome to our Club!

hehe thanks guys. My uncle is an electrical engineer, he does wiring and whatnot on submarines since he was in the navy, so im having him do everything electrical for me. Im getting a rear hitch on saturday. Going to a friends house to see how I can rig it up there. I dont think im going to make it to the cliffs, celebrating my fathers birthday tomorrow. But since I have never been on the trails me and BlackBetty are tryin to be there for the noob run on the 24. By buddy should have his Jeep fixed as well so I gonna see if I can get him to bring his '96 XJ

Hey Chris, Thanks for posting!

Electric Stooge brings up a good point.  The recovery points should be high on your list of things to install.  You'lll also want to pick up a tow strap w/ nylon loops (No Metal Hooks).  As for the CB, if you have a two way radio you can get by for a few runs (we have extras if you don't), but we do want you to have a CB relatively soon after.

Even if you don't have your recovery points installed by the Newbie Run, please feel free to come out.  We will have lessons planned and you can always ride as a passenger with a club member so you can get a feel for the park and the trails.

Hope to see you on the 24th!

If you can get your trailer hitch on by the 24th I'll let you use my old reciever with a hook welded to it. I bought my strap from Auto Zone for $30. Or you can borrow one of your friends. IF I can find my old one then you can use it. Yeah your going to have to figure out a front tow point.

My buddy has a $90, 54k lb tow strap thats like 6 inches wide with no hooks he might let me borrow. I did get that hitch and gonna install it tomorrow. Trying to find the cheapest way to rig up some front hooks. Planning on going to walmart to look at CB's and I want to put 2, 4ft whips on the plastic corners of the rear bumper

if your trying to put bolts in because you didnt have the stock. try using a coat hanger and finagling them in that way. its what I had to do. and I had no desire to drop my bumper.

wrap the wire around the bolt, get it in place, and pull. the wire should unravel leaving the bolt in place (put nut on before unraveling)

Yea, I started doing that. Got the one side in, so I went to move to the other side. There is already a strip with built-in nuts on it inside the frame that doesnt quite line up with the holes in the frame. And the holes in the strip, are to small for the bolts I got with the hitch
