So you want to be short like Tim? That sucks. What lift company you going with and have you picked out tires and wheels yet?

I don't think your jeep needs a lift Fabio, I think your low center of gravity helped you get extra muddy

I am not that familiar with XJ's so I may be wrong here. A 4.5" lift sounds like a lot of lift, how big of a tire are you going to get? BTW I think you did a fantastic job driving your Jeep through a ton of bad shiznit at the Cliffs.

With 4.5 you can fit 33s with some trimming and bump stops. 4.5 you can get away with a T-case drop and maybe a 3* shim. Yeah Fabio went in half way into #10 with us with 4 passengers.

From my limited experience with Cherokee's, comparatively to wranglers, they need way more lift for smaller tires.

Ok so I got my Rusty's 4.5 inch lift just like Big Tim (Hines). I think I have almost picked out the rims, and have already installed the rear hitch, now I will be able to finally pull someone else out of a jam!
I would like to have a lift party, does anyone have the tools to make it happen in their garage? I spoke with my mechanic to get the bolts loose ahead of time to make the job easier, if not we can do it at my place too, I hope I will have all the tools required. It would be on a nice saturday so we can bbq and hang out and get this animal lifted before the April 30th mud run at the cliffs!
Tim and John thanks for offering to help!
Ciao!

On my 99xj I did the rustys 4.5" lift and the booty end looked like they gave me 6" springs(it sat really high). but I ran 31x10.5 BFG m/t Ko2. I was told thats as big as you need to go without cutting. the jeep did fairly well with that setup.

Well we are having a build party on the 16th, if you city boys would like to come out to Austin's. Look for the post about the build party, titled-DDO build party PT. 2.
The rear hitch better have a d-ring installed in it with a good tow strap and maybe some front tow hooks.
The whole "big" tim thing, yeah still not happening, he is short and always will be short, lol.

I too am not familiar with XJ's but, WTF… You need 4.5" of lift, trimming and shims to fit 33's? F-that! Yeah go ahead XJ owner's, tell me again why a XJ is better than a Wrangler. LMFAO… but not really, more like rolling my Fin' eyes.
Anyway… What else needs to be done with a 4.5" lift on a XJ? Extended brake lines?, etc.,? I do know that 4.5" of lift on any vehicle needs more mods than simply a lift kit.
Oh and Fabio, as for being able to help other's out in a jam… You've been misled if you think a lift will accomplish that.

So I guess the next question is..Fabio do you have all the stuff Electric Stooge listed?
Will Fabio need extended drive shafts?

The rear leaf may give you a hard time. Pray that the bushings did not freeze onto the bolts. The trac bar bolt on the diff side tend to break but as long as its lubed it should come right off.
Fabio—- Did you get the t-cacse drop from rusty's?

Better start spraying the bolts with some penetrating oil.

On my XJ I needed a longer rear drive shaft… A couple inches… maybe cause the rear springs rustys sent me were huge!!!!

I dunno about you guys, but I'm running a 3-1/2" suspension lift on my '88 S10, and I'm running 33.5x12.50R15 Couragia Mud terrains, with VERY little trimming and I am doing fine.
to avoid trimming but pushing the legal limit, get rims with 1" backspacing for your XJ and you should be able to run 35's without trim, or VERY minimum trim if you are running 4.5" lift.
with a 2" body to go with my 3-1/2" susp., I can easily clear 37's with just a tiny bit of trimming.
Wranglers are the way to go if you want minor lift and big tires. :D With little to no trimming, lol. But yeah. My Chevy is doing just fine on 33's and only a 3-1/2" lift.
Can't wait to see your rig when it's done!

Good advice Stich for any other S10 owners, but XJ's are a lot different then S10's.
Trimming gets tough for XJ owners with the rear door being so close to the rear fenderwell.
XJ's are unibodies so you can't really do a body lift… Unless your special.
S10 wheel wells are larger then an XJ's which make them a little easier to fit the larger tires.
Fabio, just look at Tim's or some of the other XJ's in the group regarding tire size. Also, bring a long piece of pipe to slide over a wrench to act as a breaker bar (shouldn't be hard to find one of these in downtown chicago), and bring a handful of extra bolts because you're probably going to cut a few off.
I can hear the swear words already…
