Hi guys and girls.  I met several of you when we were up in Nicolet this past fall.  I was wheeling the black KJ with Jayme (yellocoyote).  I also attended Toys 4 Tots this year.

For those who don't know, my name is Jerry.  I have homes in both Elmhurst and Villa Park.  Anyway, thought I'd join the forum here since I am planning to make some changes soon.  Changes as in the Jeep I want to wheel off road.  I've enjoyed my KJ (it is what it is) but it's not the Jeep I want to mod for serious off-road fun.  With that said, I also hope once I find the Jeep I want, you'll allow me to officially join the club.  Those of you I've met I thought were really cool and fun people.  For now, thanks for letting me into the DDO forum.

Jerry,

welcome to the forum. Its always nice to see another Liberty. My mother has one and she has never let me touch it and mod it but one day I will go over there and lift that thing :) Anyways what kind of Jeep were you thinking about buying and building up? I think the KJ would be great, you should keep that and build it. Anyways, hope to see you next year at the meet and greets and on the trails again. Welcome.

Evans :)

Hi Evans,

Thanks for the welcome.  I plan to keep the KJ as a DD, but I'm not going to mod it any further than I was originally planning to.  I am looking for a used Rubicon (preferably a stock JK or stock TJ with low miles).  I want to do all the mods myself.  My only requirement (regarding a Rubicon) is it must have a auto trans.  I plan to start shopping in early Jan.

Thanks again for welcoming me to the forums.

And I thought maybe you would say your were going to look for a XJ :( lol, jk. If I wasnt busy buying XJs, ZJs, and MJs, I would try to find myself a nice Rubi and build it up, maybe with a Hemi in it. Glad to see another Liberty on the forum though and again welcome :)

Hey Jerry! Good to see you on the forum. Just so you know we would allow you to join the club with a KJ. They are more than welcome! But if you want to wait to get a Wrangler thats cool too. We're happy to have you whenever you are ready!

rubicon…droooool…OK. I wouldnt get too wound up with the build at first. rubis are extremely capable. then after you wheel it a few times you will know by where you want to imnprove its capabilities. I always like todo as much of my own work as possible. 1. money 2.then you know how to fix or what its gonna take when in a pinch on the trail.

I am learning as I go and can tell you there is no upgrade that beats on the trail experience.

Thanks Tim!

drunkencityworker;

FWIW, I need a daily driver and want another vehicle for a off road toy.  My original intention was to just drive this KJ on the pavement but then I was led over to LOST and before I knew it, I was planning all types of mods to go wheeling with the locals.

Fast forward – There really are no new or used cars that appeal to my needs or wants, except for the Jeep Wrangler.  With that said, it makes the most sense to keep the Liberty as a daily driver and wheel / mod a Wrangler.  As for the Rubi, I like the base platform and will mod from there.  I am thinking a 4″ lift / 1″ body lift, wheels & tires to start.  Most likely some skids too.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.  Thanks again guys.

Hey Matt!  Yeah, Nicolet was a great time.  Looking forward to wheeling with you again too.  But next time I won't have to worry about getting "down & dirty"!  Wink  Laugh

Btw;  Today I received a email from DDO questioning the personal email addy I submitted.  I replied stating the " @Mac.com " part is provided to me by having a Apple "Mobile Me" account.  Just wanted to mention this so my forum membeship isn't revoked.

- Thanks.

Hey Jerry!

Good to see you on here. It’s John with the lifted black XJ from Nicolet.

Your online membership should be fine. I know that we will send a confirmation email that requires a respond to weed out the spammers. If you posted successfully you passed!

Our first official club trip should be planned for March 2010. I’m looking forward to wheeling with you, no matter what you drive! LOL

Well I did it.  Today I purchased a 2004 Rubicon (2dr) with 24,242 miles.  I got the price I wanted to pay and I am really happy.  The Wrangler is in excellent condition (there is one very small dent in the hood I didn't notice until I was driving on my way home – not a big deal).  It is completely stock and I am thinking it must have been owned by a "Mall Rat".  Doesn't appear it's ever been off road.  Interior and engine compartment look brand new.  It's Silver with a black soft top also in excellent condition (didn't have a hard top).  Goodyear 245/16 MT's are in great shape- as are all five Moabs.  The spare still has blue stripes on the tread.  As for history, according to CarFax it was purchased new in Southern California and a title change (loan payoff) was done here in Illinois back in 2007.  I am the second owner.  The dealer (Buick / GMC) finance person thought I would be able to assume the 7/70?  I guess I need to contact Chrtysler to find out.  I need a owner's manual – Couldn't find one in the vehicle?  Oh and the key for the center console lock is missing.  Wonder if those are universal?  Come to think of it, I'm wondering if the door/ignition key works?

It's dark out, and it's been a long day.  She's in the garage tonight.  I'll post pics.

Let the mods begin!
