Just joined up. From Naperville.
Currently drive a Stock Black 2005 TJ Unlimited (LJ). I'm looking forward to future events and wheeling with you guys (gals included).
I have a few small mods on my list, the biggest hinderence is the money for the parts. Ordered a 2" BB, and Adj. Rear Trackbar. Should have that installed next week or so.
I would like to take the chrome tube bumpers off that came with it, thanks to the previous owner, and replace them with better ones, but that mod will have to wait a little while. So many things 600 bucks can buy, I have to choose wisely (Plus I will need better tires before long).
Thanks for being such a welcoming group!

Welcome to the site and to the club! Hope to see you at the season opener on the 26th. I work in the Lisle area so maybe I have waved to you or will, I am sure I can spot the chrome tubes.

Personally Treadwright tires are garbage. John, one of the other managers in the club has those on his XJ and he says that he hates them, at least thats what I remember him telling me. Buying "used" tires is just plain dumb. But like I said, thats my personal opinion.

Well, not for long – I'm going to revert back to stock bumpers (that is where the $600 reference belongs – as I would love rock front and rear bumpers with a winch plate). I found a guy on another forum in the area that I'm going to pick up the stock TJ bumpers from. That way they are black and not chrome – Then I can take the chrome front/rear, clean them up and see if I can get any cash out of them for other upgrades. I will keep the chrome tube steps (wife likes the step) but I think I'm going to try to re-do them with spray truckbed liner. There is still the matter of the Grill overlay. Not sure if I'm keeping that or not. Will just have to wait and see.
As for tires, I don't know how big I want. I think I just want 31x10.50 Duratrac tires. Treadepot.com has them for $144 a piece, I might try to see if any local shops will match them (if they do it saves me the shipping). The GY Wrangler GS-A tires aren't great, but since they have only 20k miles on them, they still have a lot of tread left. So getting tires right now seems like a waste (even though I really want them).
I can't wait until it warms up a little bit more so I can take the hard top off for the summer.

I have the identical twin of your LJ. Mine is still stock also but I do have the 31 inch Duratracs. I'm also interested in putting a BB on mine. I'll have to chat with you after you do yours and see what I'm in for. I wheeled with the GS-As last year at the Cliff's and the Badlands. They did better than I expected them to.

I got the impression that John liked his. I had them from when they were called Hi-Tec retreads on one of my Trackers. I had zero issues with them in 10,000 miles.

Were you at the M&G on Saturday? I think I saw your LJ backed into the parking space in front of Paps. If not, there was a Black one with Grey Hard top, chrome grill, stock bumpers (black – like mine will be). I did notice it was a little bigger, must have been the half inch that your tires were giving you. I love the LWB, rides so much better than my 94 YJ. Although I do miss the little 4-banger, my dad is glad I upgraded. He was more than willing to "take it off my hands".
I told my wife that we will run the GS-A tires until they fail and we have to get new ones. My BB was ordered from Morris 4x4 and they said that it was out of stock in thier warehouse so it will drop ship from the manufacturer. I hope I get it this week, so I can put it on this weekend.
I've been wanting to upgrade my LJ since day one, but getting the wife on board was a little tricky. After the M&G, she was talking to me on the ride home and she said, "those Jeeps looked really cool! How expensive will it be for us?" I told her that it would be expensive, but we can always start small, and she asked when are we going to start ordering. So thanks to the M&G, I'm getting a 2" boost, rear trackbar, Safari top, and different bumpers.
She asked last night when I think we might get some tires more suited for mud last night, I told her, one thing at a time.

He liked them when he first got them. He got the Mts, from what the guy said they were like the MTRs, which in all reality, isnt the case. The forums that I am on, I see nothing but bad reviews about them. Its about what you pay for. I personally wouldnt buy retreads, its basically a used tire. If you are going for a reason to save money sure but remember you get what you paid for. Those tires dont clean out very well, yeah sure they are cheap MTs but I would rather spend the extra, say $300.00 for a better tire by a company that has been around like, Interco or ProComp. If you are looking for a good tire on and offroad, start doing a bunch of research on tires and find a good tire that fits what you want to do.

Matt (mbRich); Be sure to check prices at NTB. A friend of mine was just telling me the other day he went to Discount Tire and got a price for Duratracs and while on the way home he decided to stop in at NTB. They beat Discount Tire's quote (for 5 tires) by over $100.00 total.

Might have to try to talk the wife into it (probalby wouldn't be hard) but I just realized that Treadlightly.org (http://www.treadlightly.org/pa…..ear-rebate) has a Goodyear rebate for $100 (comes out to $75 with a $25 membership) and I know that GY is offering a $40 rebate. Discount Tire is running a special for $50 rebate if we put it on their card (then we can just pay that off the next month) All in all – that would be $165 in savings.
So for the question, How much do you think I can sell my "Ravine" Rims for? As of right now they have 21k miles on them and are clean (never been off road). I guess I could sell them with the 30x1050 tires that are currently on them with the same mileage since I won't need them anymore. What do you guys think would be a fair price on them? I could sell them and get some black crager rims …of course I would have to get the rims first – then sell them – hard to drive my jeep without them
