In the big picture of my build, I need to figure if I will be needing a rear bumper carrier or roof rack. I'm planning on 31x10.5's and wondering if they will fit inside (XJ) on the stock mount? Can anyone show me pics of thier larger-than-stock spare solution?

I do not own an xj so take this for whats it worth. I would think that a 31" tire would fit in the back seat and probibly in the stock mount, maybe you would have to move that bolt in the middle up a bit with a bracket or something. What about laying the tire down in the back and wratchet strapping it down? My buddy has a zj on 37s and he can fit a tire laying down in the back of that thing. I would not mount a tire on the roof, it rasies your c.g and it cant be fun lifting a tire over your head and up on top of the roof. I would get a rear tire carrier if you dont want it in the back.

Thanks for the insight guys. I want to keep the back as open as possible for other stuff, so it looks like what Tim did will work when I do upgrade. I just saw the JCR rear bumper with carrier and it seems to be less expensive as others I have looked at, so it might be an option further down the line.
Thanks again
Carl

I feel your pain. Im gonna be trying to stuff a 32" in there soon… But I have been carrying one of my stockers for an emergency because in never more than 30mi from home, and a stocker is enough to limp home on.
but the only way your gonna figure it out is to try to stuff it in there. And dont forget that you dont have to have that metal bracket there. its only 4 bolts to remove it (just make sure you put the bolts back or your gonna have a watery surprise when it rains)
