What about the video of them running it under water? I was going to do this a while ago but a buddy brought up a good point about running out of propane on a trail in the UP and trying to get it filled. You could run a conversion but hiding 2 tanks on my CJ-3A might have been tough.
Yeah, I saw that too. Pretty cool stuff. You just have to make sure you have a couple tanks when you do those long trips. As far as milage goes, my CJ only has a 11 gallon tank so it wouldn't be that much different then what I'm currently getting.
Believe it or not there is more propane readily available in the UP then in the LP. More people rely on it up there.
My next trail truck will be an old yota mini truck with the carbs replaced with propane. Easy fuel injection! Just load up two tanks, it doesnt smell as bad as gas, better for the engine, and im sure you would qualify for some sort of alternative fuel tax credit lol!!

What's up Tony! The tank in the vid is what we call a 43 pounder. Most common around here in with my customers are the smaller 33's. The 33's will fit much better in the back of a CJ and you can get a couple to store on the tow rig. Be carefull though. If you transport more than that, you will need placards for your vehicle and a HAZMAT endorsement on your license (at least that's how it is in Ill.).

ohhhh. Good to know. Didn't think about the HAZMAT stuff.
I think the Hazmat endorsement and placards only apply for a commercial vehicle. Since you don't need one for a 100 gallon diesel transfer tank in a personal pick-up.
Placarding generally applies to commercial vehicles, but there are some exceptions. Diesel and propane are classified differently so the quantity you can carry before placarding is required is different. 49CFR172, NFPA 58 are the Placarding and LPG regulations.

Sorry guys, I have been driving the same work truck for about five years, so I have not really though about it for a while. I do know that over 1000 lbs for us and the placards need to be showing. I dont think anyone will go out with this much but some of our drive up customers get denied due to how many tanks they have and what type of vehicle they have. Loading a few forklift tanks (33' s) in the open back of a pickup should be fine but ten tanks in the back of an SUV could at lest get you a few questions if an officer felt like it. If you do the swich to lp, make sure you keep the tanks upright ( the one on the Jeep should have the pressure relief valve in the 12 o'clock position) and strapped in securely.

Ozric is correct on the 1000# requirement. I just want to add the 1000# includes the weight of the container not just the contents. But like he said I do not think we will carry that much LP to worry about the weight requirement.

Just be damn careful how you hook it up. Make sure it won't move around and that you connect the regulator to the tank straight. I did a house fire where they managed to defeat all the safety features on a tank and grill by not threading the tank in straight.
