Courtney has volunteered to create event videos & pictures and post them on DDOffroad.com.  Many of you take an enormous amount of pictures / video which would fill her email up in no time.  During the October meeting we discussed utilizing a FTP Server for this function.  I have set up one of my servers to do this task.  Using a FTP website will be faster to upload (depending on your connection my system will upload about one GB per minute) and would be one common place for Courtney to gather our media.

To use a FTP website you will need to install an FTP Client software on your computer – I will provide links to a few freeware versions that work great.   If you are interested please email me at jknutter@wi.rr.com – tell me what operating system you are using and what login name and password you’d like to use.  Please don’t use a simple first name for your login.  I run reports on my servers and log an average of 4 unsuccessful logins per SECOND which are all simple names.  This is what the hackers try first.  Also the more complicated the password the better; minimum requirements is at least 6 digits (any combination of letters, numbers, or punctuation).   I’ll respond back with software links and instructions on how to use the FTP website.  If you are using a common password for yourself and don't want me to know it – I can set it up so you can input it yourself using remote desktop.  Let me know if that is something you want to do so I can include those instructions also.

As a bonus I have added a collection of Factory Service manuals for most Jeep TJ’s for anyone to use.  If you have an electronic copy of a FSM or any other useful documentation that you’d like to share please feel free to upload it too.

I'm doing some research on a few different reccomendations from other Mac OSX users I know.  Some have said if I plan to utilize the program a lot, I should consider Transmit (it's not free).

I'm also looking into FileZilla & Cyberduck…..

Question;  If I were to share a specific photo album (either password protected or public) from my Photobucket account with Courtney any / every time I had photos to submit — could she simply download my pic's for use on the DDO website?

Jerry – I don't know much about the Mac world.  So please let me know which one works best for you.

Yes I think if you share it with her she can download them but in here lies the problem.  How many photobucket accounts would she have to visit to get the pictures if we all did it that way?

Doug – Thanks for the link, I'm at work now but going to try it (hope they don't red flag a FTP Client….).  Surprised

Well if past history in the club is any indication, I would say she would have to visit maybe, 6 – 8, tops?  I don't recall many members submitting pictures.

As for myself, I don't see the point to install a FTP client on either of my two Mac laptops for something I may only use 3 -4 times per year.  If I decide not to download a FTP client, I will use my (pro) Photobucket account and then Courtney can elect to utilize it, or not.

This is all true…  I'm just offering some free services, you are not obligated to use them.

Jeff – That's cool you're doing this.  I'm sure many will appreciate it.  Btw; you titled this thread "One place to store Pictures & Video" –  Led me to believe there may be other options?

Doug – You can't make me.  Laugh
