so to continue i figured this wouldnt be a bad investment since i had a spare axle in the shed from a part out i did two summers ago. it a chrysler 8.25 with 3.55 gears and since the new axle is a spring over and the old comanche axle was a spring under i figured it would give us some cheap lift. so that is where we stared our new project.
first thing was to get the old axle out

with the old axle out we prepped the new axle by cutting of the xj shock mounts

with that done we slid the new axle under the springs and by flipping and switching side with the stock ubolt spring plate / shock mount we were able to use the stock shocks in the stock location

once all the bolts were tightend, with the help of my bro shawn and andrew we threw on those 32s that i had laying around and this was the end result of the day

and then for sh!ts and giggles we jacked up the front and set the 32s up next to the front to see what it might look like if we could manage to level it out

to conlcude the night and our progress i did a quick measurement and found out that the spring over netted about 7 inches of lift in the rear and suprisingly the stock drive shaft still fits with almost no pull out of the spline at the trans.
i also did some more research about srping over lifts and rusty said that its a 4.5 inch lift so i think were gonna try some 4.5 inch lift springs to start in the front and go from there to level it out.

so as it sits right now its like a dragster and we are pretty much at a stands still looking for a front axle with 3.55 gears in it and some cheap coils for the front, so if any one know of some cheap parts laying around let us know, we are trying to do this on the cheap
oh and on a side note we are NOT keeping the top/cap so if anyone knows of anyone that needs a top/cap for a 1/4 truck let us know

Looks awesome. I really love these kind of builds; find something junky, work on it, make something less junky, but with bigger tires. From experience with 4 cylinder jeeps I think you should consider keeping 4:11 gears. A good crawl ratio is the only way to make up for the lack of torque and horsepower of the 4 banger.
Consider keeping the D30 up front and just regearing the rear to 4:11. I've seen people wheel open D30's with 35's and do okay. If not, you could always beef up the 30 a little with chromoly axles.
Looks great, love the jeep trucks.

F-150/Bronco Coils ('79-ish) = 4-4.5" lift
that or a set of rustys coils go for about 130 plus shipping
also, I still have the stock jeep center caps in my garage if need em

Justin, I say instead of a truck bed cap, weld up a double roll bar and throw some KC's up on top.

heres a little update. the rear end is basically all buttoned up except that weird propotionaing valve for the rear brakes and the parking brakes but other than that the brakes have been reconnect and bled and diff has a freshly painted cover on it and has been filled with some fresh fluid.

and this excellent art work was done by tyler my little bro.
