WOW!!
I would want a little more power than that, but wow! did I miss what transfer case he was using?
what case could handle that power?

I once owned a 1977 CJ5 that I put a 360CID in. It was like a rocket propelled skateboard, I miss that old gal she was a fun ride!

Not too bad for a Cherokee, and wouldn't kill the wallet for the swap or to feed it either. It looked like a clean install, anyways, in the first video.

Take it from somebody who had one; not even close to worth the effort.
Stick a good granny gear manual behind a 4.0 and you have a more reliable, easier to service power plant that will deal with being flopped onto it's side better nad has a superior torque curve.

Yes, shame on me for expressing an opinion that was not the same as yours… Dream all you want and do what you want; you don't need my approval.
You may want to look a little closer into what exactly you are buying on the old Jeep because first of all there is no such thin as a CJa or CJb. I assume you are talking about a CJ-3A and and CJ-3B and I am not sure if there was overlap on them or not so you may want to double check the years on the frame and motor.
Also check what axles are under it, hopefully they have been upgraded to later model axles, because to be honest with you if you have a granny gear and a strong F-head you are going to have nothing but headaches axle wise; the two piece D44 is prone to spinning the flanges on the axle even more than that AMC 20 and unless it has an updated t-case the pumpkin is going to be on the right side and axles are hard to find. The only real upgrade is to get a '70 and up one piece diff or look for an elusive Qudratrac D60 and cut one side down. Plus the D25 or 27 it had in the front from the factory is not very strong and can be difficult toget parts for and to service.
Not to mention a 53 is going to have thorugh the floor pedals and a single resivour master cylinder all of which suck. The frame are also very prone to some pretty serious structural issues unless you put some significant work into reinfocing them.
Old Jeeps are awesome but if it is not a complete vehicle in one piece or you are getting a freaky good deal (Like damn near free) they are just a big headache.
Mind you I am not discouraging you from getting into an old flatty, just cautioning you to really look at what you are planning to buy vs. what you want to do with it and what it will take to get it there.
Remember, my all time favorite trail rig is the Pewe Flatty; which died of a broken frame.
More than once.

Man, I wish I could find the pic of it broken in half; if anyone can find it that would be soooo awesome.

yes it s a cj3 sorry i forgot to put it in there and yes it is damn near free and it isnt a sure thing we are getting it and i havent had time to do any reasearch yet for i just found out abou the deal and im still in school studying like crazy for finals and trying to tie up loss ends for summer work and intern ships. i was lucky enough to have some down time to relax and watch some you tube videos.
thank you for the warnings but me and my dad (at this time) have no real aspirations to build anything crazy because one whe have no where to really put this thng or work on it or the resaources to do and major mods
hers a pic of what we would be getting, including the fenders and extra parts in the back ground (it has a temp floor and the seats and steering has been mounted (since this pic was taken) so it can be driving out of the guys barn because its in his way)
i have not had a chance to go look at it in person and see what its all got, for it is three hours from my school and about 5 hours from home

The parts in the back are for a 3A, they will not fit with the f-head; it was the reason for the tall hood on the 3B.
Looks like it has stock axles, an unboxed frame, is still running the 'c' style shackles and high count spring packs; it would need a ton of work to be ready for all but the easiest trails.
It does, however, look to be in excelent shape but I am having trouble figuring out what trans could be in it because it looks like the T-90 that came in a 3B and that is only a 3spd.
Low range int he D18 sucks but too.

i had many thoughts about putting a V8 in mine too. the best choice i can see is an LS2 motor, it will be able to handle the rigors of offroading up and down an crazy angles and such, and have more than enough power to do whatever you want it to.

A 2.18 low range isn't that bad. Are you sure that Pewe's flatfender is dead?
Double check the rear spring mounts, mine had been torn off and it looked like welded back on with JB Weld. Boxing a frame is "easy" as long as you have either a plasma cutter or own stock in a cut-off wheel company.
I'd be apt to get it just for the sheetmetal and see if you can sell the other parts or scrap them out. For less than $200 you could turn a profit and more that $400 you'd lose money.
