So I just wanted to get a quick idea of what all the members of DDO want to see in 2010. List out your ideas, comments, dislikes you have. The 3 wise men are here to please everyone in the club and make sure everyone is happy with what we bring them. Thanks again for a great 2009 season and so we will be hitting the trails again. :)

I'm thinking a HUGE DDO cookout sometime in June or July, that could be our monthly meeting also, but we can have it like at Paps parking lot or somewhere we can all be outside, enjoying the weather and sun! I'm just throwing that out there Cool

I like this. I could maybe be in the forest preserve near the airport or something. That would be cool.

1. Cook out is great idea. Forrest preserve is best location for it. Doesnt have to be near paps.(great for peep that live by there, not so great for those who dont)Mix it up. Could be a great opportunity for show n shine. Maybe spring when weather turns to show off winter mods.
2. any individual trail run with 2 or more ddo members becomes a ddo run(unless other sponsored event)
3.Hardcore/nonhardcore sections of forum…no delete in hardcore section

for starters

I dont like that anyone can show up and pay 30 bucks and get into the club.  We got lucky in the past and have had mostly good people join.  We need to change the critera to join.  Make a meeting or 2 and atleast a cliffs run with us so we can get to know you a little bit.  In my opinion if you really enjoy wheeling and you WANT to be part of a club, you can at least put some kind of effort into the club before joining.  Another REQUIREMENT should be MANDATORY 4x4.  Your in a 4x4 club, WTF are you doing here with a 2wheel drive?  You cant go where we go and I dont want to spend my day dragging you through and over every obsticle we come across.  I dont care if your rig is lifted with the best tires money can buy, your useless if your 2wd.

Deleting things we say on threads has to stop because you want the website to have a nice appearance to outside people.  Thats all fine and great, but nothing upsets me more when something I posted gets deleted because it might upset someone.  Chances are if I said something like that, it WAS supposed to upset them.  I know that there has to be some type of containment on what gets said here, but the way its done now has to stop.

"Club Runs"… We need support on these, the Badlands trip for example.  There was no flyer, nothing put on the home page about us going.  So it was 3 members that went, would have been nice if there was a little more behind us trying to get people to go.  I know its holiday time, blah blah blah… Im not telling everyone to go, but a little support from club management would have been awesome.  There are always a million excuses why you cant go, thats fine, I dont care about those, Im looking to grow this sport and I want to give people opportunities to go with us.

Minimum requirements need to get enforced a little more. 4x4 (ranted already) mandatory, front and rear recovery points mandatory, good towstrap with OUT hooks mandatory, CB radio I would like everyone to have one, but we can get by without.  For any serious member, it should be mandatory.  Its so nice when you can hear whats going on and where not to drive, or in convoy and something happens, easier to deal with things that way.  I broke a 20000lb tow strap at the badlands with chris, he was hella stuck granted but I dont see why you would want to skimp on something that could seriously hurt you when it breaks.

Drivers meetings before outings.  I think we have been learning a lot as we go with this.  We need to ask questions like who is new, who has never done this before and address some saftey concerns before we get on the trail.  Im not saying like a classroom lecture about it, but management (if they are on the run) or someone else should be having a meeting before you wheel.  Me, chris, josh, and all passangers had a meeting before we went out and these guys are my friends, it never hurts to stress saftey when your going to be doing some potentionally dangerous things.  I dont want to see anyone get hurt.  I know things happen when your on the trail.  I just want to advoid problems.  Simple things like explaining that its one at a time up and down hills and through obsticles.  Dont be afraid to ask for a spotter (very easy with a cb) someone will be more than happy to jump out and help guide you along the trail.  Dont drive across a hill, drive up or down it (John).  Simple things like this.  If things go well, everyone should be sick of hearing the saftey speach every outing.

I think that the 3 managers have done a wonderful job, I dont want them to think Im attacking them or the club.  These are just things I have been staying quiet about.  Im not the only one with these types of concerns, Im just not afraid to say them.  I want to see this club grow and be respected and be a fun place for everyone to hang out.  We have a GREAT start and I'd hate to see a couple of bad apples drag all the hard work down.

Something I would like to see on the weekend runs would be a little more organization with food.  We have all been pretty much doing the family style meals.  Im trying to figure out a way that we can get this accomplished with least amount of effort put out by everyone.  This kinda goes along with the big party… We do it everytime we do a weekend trip so I feel if you want it, show up to a weekend trip.  Im not trying to get down on the idea, I wouldnt mind a show and shine, I love getting together with everyone and showing off the rigs.

so far I am very pleased with what I have seen from DDO. What would help me in attending more functions would be a schedual of events as early in the year as possible. I work for the Il Dept of Corrections and we have to put in for our vacation time by the middle of January. Other tha that, maybe a few standing runs that would be done every year like example: second week end in May would always be a Badland trip. Or some thing like that if it didn't become to boring. Just spit-balling here

Thank you to all the members who have posted comments so far. Personally it is my goal (and I’m pretty sure Tim and John would agree with me) are trying to make this club the best club for everyone who joins. Since we are such a young club and we have grown so quickly, we will go through some growing pains and I hope everyone can stand by us and let us figure everything out. I am going to be completely honest with everyone, I never thought that we would have 30+ members at the end of 2009. We have a great group of people that know a lot of things and we can all help eachother out whether its on the trails or with the club. Tim, John and myself only manage the club, this is your club.

As for the trips for next year, due to the fact that we have a lot of new members and with that, some of them have never been off roading, I would like to do some more Cliff’s trips, not only because it is cheaper on everyone’s wallet but it closer to everyone’s house. I would like to set up a Newbie run(if thats even spelled right) for those members who are not only new to the club but new to the sport/hobby of 4 wheeling.

I would also like to make this clear to all the new members that have recently joined the club. If you do not have a cb, antenna, recover points and at least on tow strap, please, please go out and get these. They are not only a requirement in DDO but also anytime you go 4 wheeling.

Since this is a 4 wheel drive club and all of us have 4×4s, we should only have 4×4s in the club. I agree but we currently have 2 members who are doing 4×4 conversions, which in my book would make them a 4 wheel drive vehicle. They havent been on a run with anyone from the club but they have shown up to meetings and the toys for tots event. We should all give them support in their projects and hopefully by the first trip in 2010 they can join us on the trail as a 4 wheel drive vehicle.

Driver’s meeting, yes I completely agree with this and yes at every trail run there will be a driver’s meeting from this moment on. Not only for the new comers to the club but the members who have been around for awhile and have wheeled with the club. It will be split even with new and old members, and at least one winch in each group(s).

As I said before, this club has a lot of wondeful members and I am excited about the 2010 season. I just hope everyone can be patient and let management get through the growing pains and iron all the small kinks out. Thanks again to everyone who has posted anthing on this thread, thats what I wanted, I wanted everyone opinion of the club and what they wanted to see in the year to come. Anyways, I am done with my manager rant :) , thanks again to everyone and see you in 3 short months.

Very good thoughts Ruk. We will take them all into consideration when planning for 2010.

As far as the Badlands trip goes, that wasn't considered an official club event since the DDO 'season' ended with the holiday party. We orginally planned the calendar for 2009 from April to the holiday party. Kicking off the season again in March in 2010. If we want to make the club continuous all year long (thru the winter) we can. We should take a vote on that. As I stated, I will not be active in the club during the winter months, so making flyers and promotional materials will be tough since I do all that work, but we can figure something out.

KEEP THE IDEAS COMING!

I feel like my ideas are being attacked. Thought this was supposed to be for US to express our thoughts. Im not only speaking for myself, but for a few other members in the club. Some of these things have been brought to my attention and I agree that things need to get changed. The badlands trip… Thats fine we didnt get anysupport, Im not asking for flyers or anything, just something on the home page of the website so everyone can be easily informed with out having to look at the forum. As for who is 2wd in the club, fine if they join, but not offical member until your 4x4, with the stipulations I stated earlier. This is just my opinion, but the managers should not be talking much in this thread. Your the managers, your can have your meetings and do what you want anyway. Thought this thread was gonna be for us to express how we feel and things that have been bothering us. There are MANY great things you do for the club, Im not knocking that at all. I appreciate everything that gets done behind the scenes. If the managers wanted to post about changes they want to see, I think it should just be that, no defending anyone for not being up to requirements (as loose as they are). This is what I was kinda talking about where we get censored. Someone starts on a rant (its gonna happen) and someone else gets upset (gonna happen) BUT in this case I dont think managers should be saying much, let this thread go and see what people think. Then at the start of the new season in march we can all get together and talk this out, after all this is OUR club, we all need to have some input.

I think that a lot of good things have come out of this forum already. I have talked to a few people about more "requirements". I really like the summer trips and would hate for those to change. The weekend/cookout/few days offroading and camping style really works for me and we always had a good time. (It helps that the sun shines out of Tim's rear end and makes the days nice).

I like the recovery points front and rear and tow strap. CB/Family radio is good for safety too. I really like the idea of driver's meetings as well.

I think that during the year we should really focus on education. I know that throughout my first year of offroading I have been really eager to learn, be safe, and understand my vehicle better. For some people, it might be really beneficial for a new driver to be sandwiched between two vets that can help them through the trip.

Quick question, since memberships are renewed at the beginning of the season, how will it work for those members that joined in October, November, or even at the Holiday party? They paid their 30 bucks, but never really got a chance to go wheeling or any of that…Will they have to pay another 30 dollars again when the 2010 season kicks off? This doesnt really affect me cause I joined in June/July, so whatever, I can pull another 30 bucks outta my ass LOL, but I would feel bad for the newer members that joined at the end of the 2009 season.

WOW! Between Chris and Rukk, i think they laid out the majority of the little issues or growing pains (however you want to call them).
I beleieve the walk in with $30 and your in, is the wrong way. I like the idea of newbie run. The 4x4 thing, yea i agree but he is working on it, thats cool (and if need a hand, shoot me a pm. Ill be more then happy to help). trips with 2 or more DDO members, no flyers-no biggie. Something on the homepage or aleast some kind of support would be nice. And Tim, if its to much of a hassle or your busy, then ask for help. Im pretty sure some one is willing to lend a hand.Posts being deleted because of image is BULLSHIT!! It needs to stop! If someone is getting carried away, then shoot them a pm or call them.Im on several other offroad boards and they say it how it is and thats it. Image only gets you so far. Dont get me wrong, the three wise men have done a great job. I understand there is alot of work behind the curtain. And i am very greatful for what you guys do. Drivers meetings, cb, and recovery points is a must. Food organization is helpful ( i brought food for everyone at the badlands but, someone forgot they were in a jeep and not a small boat. LOL) So that didnt happen. There is plenty more i have to say but 4:30 a.m. comes quick. Ill post some more later

To answer this now. I will personally take care of that when the time comes. This is how I am going to do. On your 1 year join date, you will pay for your new yearly membership. I have everyone's join date writen down and is also on a spread sheet. I will pm and email the person a month in advance to remind them. If you pass your join date anniversary and havent paid, you will have until the holiday party (2010) to pay it but if anyone who has been in the club for awhile and would like to either pay it on their anniversary date or at the season kick off, then those 2 options will work as well. I am also doing this to take some pressure off of Tim and John to concentrate on other club things. Hope that answers that question for everyone new and old members.
