I came across oddballs I guess you would call rant today I look at this site almost
everyday and read the rss at the bottom and as a non member I dont agree with
him on locking out non members or limiting them to what they can see I enjoy reading
alot of stuff thats on here and looking at the wheeling pics. The only reason I have not
become a member is cause I live in Indiana and your club meets are far for me to drive
up to.Hopefully you keep the site the way it is so that way people like me who live to far to come
to club meetings might still be able to go on one or more of your runs this year. Remember its about
wheeling not the internet.

The way I see it, anyone who joins the club shouldn't need to worry about the forum. After all DDO is suppose to be about wheeling as a club and NOT about the internet. Or so I thought.
Btw 93yj; that wasn't a rant. It was my opinion to improve the club I described in the paragraph above.

Being as I am the guy who seems to get a lot of 'thumbs down' on his posts and I just recently started posting (also because I am a total narcissist) here I'm going to *guess* this little bit of internet drama has to do with me…
Here is the thing guys I am not here to mess around or harass this club, I am here to contribute. If I was here to mess around you would know it and I would have been banned several times and come back and harassed you by now, just ask TIJA, ChiTown Racing and a few other sites…
I might have a sense of humor you don't all get and maybe I like to voice my opinion on stuff but I have been respectful of others here (I've insulted no one even though I have been insulted) and tried to contribute viable information. I have years of off road experience, tons of mechanical experience and knowledge and a heep of tools, space and tech that could be helpful to many people on here but you, as a club apparently, have to decide if you are willing to accept the fact that help and those benifits come with somebody that does not always agree with you or might question stuff you do or say.
Here is some food for thought: DDO, right now, has a reputation as a club and forum where anyone who disagrees is kicked out; is that the image you want or do you want to be known as a open minded club willing to discuss things? Running a club where a revered few set all the rules and their opinions are the only ones that matter usually does not lead to a club that grows and survives; history has proven that. GLJT may not be a perfect club and there may be arguments over there but it is one of the oldest and most stable clubs in the area with decent web traffic where other, more restrictive clubs, have faded away.
Not saying GLJT is better or worse or that you should use it as a model just giving you some food for thought.

Dunno.
Depends on what happens when I meet people and see the group on the trail.
But do I have to be a member to contribute to your forum? Should I skip writing any of the how to articles I was going to post here and not repost any of my old ones?

Okay lets put this whole thing to rest right now. Oddball's "rant" as some may put it was not a rant, it was his way of expressing his thoughts and ideas, which anyone who joins our forum, takes the time to introduce themselves and contributes to the forum in a positive way is allowed to do.
The reason why a few people have been kicked out of either the club or forum or both was because of their actions not only on our club forum but on other websites as well. If DDO is known for that basically because of those people talking about with other people from a different club, then so be it. I personally dont have a problem with those individuals that were kicked out (even though they attacked me for no reason), hell I would even wheel with them.
DDO is not a internet/forum club, we never set out to be one nor will we ever be. We are a club who promotes a good standard of what a club should be, and for those of you who dont know, here is my list of how a club should represent itself…..
*Promote an environment in which everyone is heard
*Promote an environment in which every member is treated the same.
*Promote an environment of zero tolerance for slandering another member of the club.
*Promotes the club in a positive environment.
*Is FAMILY FRIENDLY.
I know there is going to be disagreements about certain things that are posted on this forum, thats called life but when someone and I'm not pointing fingers at anyone here, joins the club, joins the forum whatever and attacks someone right off the bat for lliking something that, that person may not like or doesnt want, then yes, as a Manager and Moderator of this club/forum, I will stand up and say something. We have a lot of good people in this club who have either been with us from the start or just joined and I'm sorry I will NOT have people coming onto this forum and attacking certain viewpoints or threads. You can disagree with a person but do it in a way that is not offensive. Everyone has a right to their opinion, its called free speech but I am not about to have fighting start on this forum like I have seen with other clubs and that does not include GLJT because I hardly even go on GLJT, no offense to them at all. Now NotoriousDUG I understand where you are coming from but sometimes when you reply in a thread, you come off a bit harsh and thats all I am going to say.
And though DDO may look to some as an "internet" club, thats far from the truth, the only reason there has been so much activity on the forum, well thats freaking simple, no one in the club really wheels during the winter, most of the time this is our way of communicating with other members and also to see what other members are up to.
Also with the whole "members only" section of the forum, if you look at GLJT, I'm pretty sure that they have their own members only forum and that is to express ideas, vote, etc., for the club and its members, thats basically where the member's only section came from and without that, we would have added some many different topics to this forum because it was ideas of members to change up the forum not of non-members.
94YJ, I am glad though that you enjoy our forum and hope to have the pleassure of wheeling with you this year, maybe possibily even joining.
Oddball, you opinion is important not only to me and the rest of DDO management but also to the other members of the club, so please dont be shy on the forum
NotoriousDUG, even though you may come off harsh, I can see where you have a lot of knowledge and would be a great service to some of our members and non-members. I hope to see more posts from you and like 94YJ have the pleassure of wheeling with you in the future.
Also before I end this novel, I would like to make a statement right now, I dont care if you are a member of this club and feel like joining another as well, as long as your promote both in a rightful manner, I have no problem with it. We dont hold a gun to your heads and say, "you can only be a part of blah blah!! and not a part of this one". Okay I'm f'ing done.

People are always going to talk about your club/forum other places, if you spend lots of time worrying about it you are just going to give yourself headaches.
Banning people always makes for bigger problems then it solves in the long run unless they are seriously screwing up your boards.
You guys have a good start; it would be nice to have another all makes, all models club here in Chicago after the failure of Chicago4x4 but that requires you to keep an open mind when new people show up.
Members forums are a valuable tool for running a club, it's nice to have a place out of the public eye to discuss stuff.
Those of you who weant to believe I am here to make trouble check out me sticking up for DDO on GLJT.

Because GLJT is Jeep only and I have interest in things other then Jeeps.
There is nothing to work out about it, off road clubs are not an adversarial venture A person can belong to more then one without it being a slight to the other; I once served on the BOD of *gasp* TWO different Chicago area off road clubs at the same time!
Statements like that make you sound very close minded as a club…

I sent you a reply and the naked picture you asked for.
I still don't see what me in a speedo has to do with off roading but I included it anyway as a gesture of goodwill.

Actually my opinions regarding this club weren't about you. Not entirely anyway.
But I will let everyone know "The Leader's" of this club are well aware of what I am about to let you and everyone else in on – I've been sent PM's here and emails asking me what you have against me, and if I knew you. I guess I wasn't the only one who questioned why you were here. No one should blame me, other's or the club in general for these thoughts. For what it's worth, I told them no because I don't believe I do know you. Like I mentioned to a few, I don't know anyone from Channnahon, IL. (According to your member profile at GLJT). On the other hand, I began to wonder what was up when I read you posted here in the 'broken firestik' thread you lived in Chicago? But that's neither here nor there. No pun intended. So I began to question your motives and nothing else – regardless of the fact I get argumentative opinions on many of my posts from you when I don't ask for them.
Now on to more important things – I have to disagree with you on your "food for thought". Or I should simply write that three member's who were removed from a club for causing trouble does not constitute DDO (or any club) as having a bad rep. But maybe that's just my thinking. As for DDO, and it's member's I joined because I wanted to be apart of a off-road club with active participation and not just internet chit-chat. With that said, being a actual member of this club (albeit new), I was and will continue to express my views and yes opinions for the betterment of this club.
To come full circle, when I expressed those concerns, I'll give you all (generally speaking here) those opinions, but "rant", not in the least), those concerns or opinions weren't meant to single out any one person. That's all I got on this subject. At least here on the forum.

My member profile at GLJT lists my location as 'the center of the earth eating cake' so I am not sure where you get the whole Chananananana thing; I live in the city proper. Shame on me for posting my opinon of stuff on the internet, I thought that was what places like this where for…
I know what I have heard about DDO and it is that they ban people who disagree with them. I know it must be true because the internet told me so… OK, well maybe not but that is the story that is out there circulating about DDO along with rumors of illegal wheeling and other stuff but then again that is almost always part of the growing pains of any new club.
Your own forum rules say to grow thick skin, maybe some of you should think about doing just that. You post stuff up on the internet people are going to voice their opinion of it and maybe even correct it if you screw up. When that happens you have a choice, you can learn from what they say and increase your knowledge and better yourself, you can ignore it or you can take it to heart and get butthurt; the choice is yours.
Me, I choose to see stuff on the positive side, but that's just me.
