I am wondering what everyone gets for gas mileage in their rigs?  If you know please post wheeling, around town, and highway mileage.  On the way to and from the Badlands I got 23 and 24 mpg while pulling my little trailer.  I stopped for gas 20 miles outside of Attica and then filled up on Sunday before leaving for home.  I put on 65 miles of wheeling and running around town.  It got 16.5 mpg for that.  Going to work and back it normally gets 22 mpg.

I get about 15 or so on the highway and about 12 in the city with my XJ. The Grand Cherokee, when its running gets a little better on both, I would say at least 18 on the highway and 16 in the city. It all depends on I guess, wheeling I have no idea.

On a good day my CJ with a V8, 5:13 gears, 36 in tires gets about 8mpg.  Thats with the radio, lights and AC turned off.

I don't even check anymore, I think around town if I baby it I can squeak out 15-16 with a manual and 3.73 gears.

Man, you guys have me rethinking of getting a TJ with the 4.0!  I could live with 16 mpg in commuting but the 12's scare me.  I'd be getting one with an automatic.

Were you thinking about getting the 4banger? If so it only gets maybe 1-2 mpg better,  the cons are way less power, less reliable, fewer aftermarket and replacement parts then the 4.0.

I had a 98 2.5 5 speed a few years ago that got 16-18.  I'd consider one of those again but not for a daily driver.  I really don't want stick in a daily driver around here.   I haven't driven a newer 2.4 4 cylinder with an automatic.  I should try out one of those.  What I should probably do is trade my stick daily driver (06 Miata) for an automatic one and then buy another older SE 5 speed for my toy.

If you have the option of having 2.  Stick with something you already have that you know gets good gas milage for your commuter.  Its probably already paid off, which would free up some money for mods, and then you could have a really cool bumper sticker that says; "My other car is a Jeep" or something like that.  Then get a Jeep with a 4.0 or a V8 for your toy.  Then it wouldn't matter what kind of millage it gets because you would only drive it on wheeling days.

I went the other approach and bought two gas guzzlers.  To each their own I guess.

I get 13-15 on a daily basis (which is why I take the bus :)). Wheeling I was getting about 8. On the highway I can get as high as 17.

But I just realized that this isn't as different as my sedan. Buick Regal with the supercharger would only get 18! Haha.

Anyone else here, besides myself, proud that they get such low mileage? People ask me all the time, "Is that thing good on gas?" I just tell people I'd rather drive this than an import that gets 3x as much mileage.

Hey, we sure didn't buy 'em for gas mileage! They are 3x as much fun as those imports. The rough ride also makes me proud when people get in. Haha

Jeeps get good enough gas mileage for what we like to do with them. Yeah, Ive fought it out with mine trying to squeeze every drop between some pay checks, But its worth driving something I know I wont die in if something goes wrong!!! much rather get 12mpg than pay a hospital bill
