I know Mitch has the set up where the stock antenna is a cb antenna. I'm kind of old school and like the whole cb antenna. I think you should get that cb radio, its actually a pretty good deal cuz I have seen that cb go for a lot more honestly. I think go for it. I can help you out with the whole set up when you get everything.

I got the CB , front fender mount combo from quadratec and all I did to get power to it was get a cigarette lighter plug in and wired it up that way. It works really good and doesn't get any engine noise, plus it is easy to pull out that way. You con get the plug ins at most truck stops that have CB's and they plug right in to the back of the radio…no splicing involved.

The model 29 is a great radio. It is one of the most common models to tweak to get more power out of them. A truckers favorite… Make sure you get a good SWR and you'll be able to cover the whole park.

SWR= Standing Wave Ratio -
You need to adjust your antenna to maximize SWR, most good antennas allow this adjustment.
Your radio comes with an SWR meter so just read the manual, it should explain how.

The 29 LTD is a okay low end radio. It's big (especially for a Wrangler) but will do the job nicely (especially for trail commnuication) as well as talking with others to / fro wheling trips. I would suggest if you're going to become a CB junkie on the highway, you have the radio peaked. I would also suggest (if the same be true), you upgrade to a Roadking noise cancelling mic. Makes a big difference especially if you're going to use the radio a lot (highway) – otherwise the stock radio / mic should be good enuff.
I had to laugh when I read the description on the radio link you supplied here. The "choice of professional drivers" – yeah, maybe in the 70's & 80's. LMAO.
Todays "professional choice" is a; "Ranger", "Galaxy" or "President", CB radio.
EDIT: I know a guy who owns a CB shop out in Huntly, IL (off I-90) behind a truck stop. His name is Chip – I can't find his business card but he has installed (high end) radios in my dump trucks over the years. He is the best in this area. Last time I saw him he was designing his own brand of radio. Not sure how that has come along.
Of course maybe someone here in the club might be able to help you with installs and such too.

There is still a ton of model 29's on the road because they are almost bullet proof and my favorite when it comes to fixing them. I can still find whatever part I need to put them back together again. The size is an issue for the wrangler that's the only reason my 29 isn't hanging under the dash. Like Jerry said if your going to use it on the highway get a good noise canceling mic and hang an external speaker from the roll bar and you'll be golden.

So who here is old enough to remember the CB craze back in the 70's?
I have to laugh thinking back on that era, how lame it was.

Thats a big 10-4 right there good buddy. Back in the day when I was driving wiggle wagons from the mitten state to shakey town, I was always on the look out for some drop tops in the hammer lane, with pretty seatcovers heading for the owl. It was always fun pullin into the choke and pukes when it was time to get some go juice. But I always had to make sure I backed off the hammer when I got into the limits, because there was always a kojak with a kodiak hiding in the bushes trying to catch guys on the kill me quicks. As long as you kept it in the double nickel there was never any problems.
Just kidding, I wasn't even born then, nor did I even drive a truck. I'm just a big fan.

You can thank Smokie and the Bandit for the big craze…
I dusted off the 29 and hung it in the Motorhome after being off the air for about 15 years – can't believe how things have changed. The CB is still a very useful tool on the highway – specially to point out those hidden Police officers. I've been driving to Milwaukee all week to attend programming training for work – there is still a lot of conversation on that old AM Band.
