If I login to the forum I get a huge DDO banner at the top.

Anyone else notice this issue?

This just started the other day, so something changed Confused

It's really irritating on my tiny netbook, nearly half the screen now says DDOFFROAD.COM

I am trying to change it in my profile but I can't x-(

Tim, if you are reading this can your webdude look into this please?

Thanks Austin.

I think I tried everyone of the other crappy avatars, it took me a while just to find the pumpkin since they are all huge.

Just a thought here. I was thinking about bringing this up at the season kick off party but seeing how this forum is actually starting to get on my nerves now, what do you guys think about going to a different kind of website set up, maybe something that Jeepforum or NAGCA.com has. I like the way their website is faster, loading pictures is a lot easier, etc. What do you guys think? I am going to bring it up at the season kick off party because I am actually quiet tired of the forum, its just too damn slow.

I have hosted forums using the same software that you see here:  http://wi4x4.com/forum/

I don't mess with site design much, but we could figure out a theme/color scheme that would work for everyone.  If you guys wanted it hosted free, I'd be willing to do that, but would require some room for Google AdSense ads (no more than one per page).

Fwiw…

this is an excellent vBulletin® forum format

I say fwiw because I can't help but think we're just blowing smoke here.

Ok, i am working on this problem. Stupid WordPress update! I deleted the avatars for now. I'll re upload with a smaller size. What i need to do i get rid of that account bar at the top of the page. I'll play around with this in the next couple days. Sorry guys.

I am down for a new forum, but keep in mind most you have to pay for. If we can find something awesome that we can integrate right into the site like this and keep all the data I am down. Who wants to head this up?

I'll just add that in 6 or 7 years, that V-Bulletin format (link I submitted above) has never crashed.  Now this  > phpBB format forum on average, crashes once a year.

I nominate Doug (weeeee) to head up a new forum.

LOL- Thanks for the vote of Confidence Mr Foreman. Smile

I am more of a network infrastructure guy vs an app guy.  I really don't know much about forum software.
I would be willing to help but there may be some more qualified people that could do this, Schlingblade and Swicago come to mind.  Maybe jknutter as well…
Let's bring this up at the M&G since we will have a large audience and maybe some additional folks have experience.

I won't be able to make it to the M&G this weekend due to prior plans.  Maybe I can call in and listen in via cell?

The reason I mention phpBB is because I've run that software for years (without incident, I might add).  It's free software, so it can be modified and won't cost the club a dime.  If the club would rather pay money for forum software like vBulletin ($195 for the forum software, $495 for the publishing suite), that's the club's decision.  I'd rather my dues go towards club stuff, and not towards software that doesn't go off-road.  :-)

I'm also more of an infrastructure guy, but I have run car club sites and whatnot in the past for free for a decent amount of users.  I'd be willing to take a crack at this if someone who knows something about CSS wants to fiddle with some themes for a site.

I'd be willing to help where I can – not much experience with forum software, but very willing to learn…  I have a buddy that hosts a Harley Riders forum with vBulletin, he could be a great resource if we need it.

It looks like you can purchase one of two options of vBulliten – a basic forum license is $195 and the full Publishing suite is $285 you only need one not both and the license doesn't expire for the forum software – updates on the other hand expire after one year unless you renew your license.   The required software to run vBulliten on your host is PHP and SQL Server – both are available as a free download.   Depending on how much traffic the DDO Forum sees and how much room it needs, I'd consider hosting it on my personal server which could save the group some money.Â

Jeff,

How much bandwidth(Up/Down) do you have for a server?

Do you have a backup solution in place?

Does your ISP have bandwidth caps?( I don't want you getting in trouble by hosting)

I would be willing to fork over some $dough$ to help fund the project Laugh
