I saw this Cherokee on the expressway yesterday. Looks like the shock came disconnected from it's upper mount. Anyone ever seen that happen?

all the time I have seen 2 ways it happens first the more common reason out here there are 2 tiny bolts holding the shock to the thin metal on the bottom of the jeep and out here that metal can rust. The second reason is the flimsy mount can handle prerunning all that well but I am willing to bet that was not the case for this guy. as far as ways to work around that problem I haven't seen an easy fix most people helicoil and wait to break it agen.

I can see that happening, when I went to put my new ones in the nuts just broke off from the rust. I had to drill them out and retap it and hope for the best.

I've seen that happen and its happened to me, totally sucks. Wonder if that guy knew that happened, it would drive alittle different but maybe he likes the whole, 1 rear shock set-up in the back.

A lot of shops won't even put shocks on the rear of a cherokee because the bolts snap off flush in the body ALL the time.

I did that in harlan KY on the taco, i thought i blew the shock and brushed it off and kept wheeling. 2 days and a trip to work later i noticed it hanging off walking my dog DOH!!! I broke the shock off the bottom mount, so it wasent dragging on the ground or anything. I ended up driving for about 4months with only 1 rear shock, actually not too bad unless i hit some REALLY rough road going fast. From what i remember dont the xjs have those stupid bar pins that bolt pretty much right to the floor for the upper rear shock mount?
