My PC has been infected with probably a bunch of malware. Is there anyone here that can clean hardrives or eliminate virus'? I use Spybot, but the problems come back as soon as they are cleared.

Thanks

Carl

Have you tried avast? That's what i use on my pcs. It works pretty darn well and it's free. Gotta like free. If that doesn't help let me know, I've got a few other things i use that may help.

I haven't tried avast, but a friend of mine looked at it and was able to clear a bunch of stuff out. I think one of the programs he used was malwarebytes. So far it seems to be working.

Malwarebytes is a great program. I downloaded it after it was recommended to me by an IT guy at Chicago Police Department. He also recommended a program called CCleaner. I use both on an eight-year-old laptop I somehow resurrected and still use to this day.

If you need any suggestions or pointers on either program, I'd be happy to help!

Thanks man. So far, so good. My buddy also installed Microsoft Security Essentials. I now periodically scan with both.

Scanning once a week or so is a good idea. I think you can put MSE on a schedule so you don't have to manually scan, but that requires leaving your computer on during the scheduled times. I used to leave my computers on stand-by (or set them to go into stand-by after a certain amount of time).

I don't use them as much as I did a few years ago, though, so I try to scan when I'm thinking about it.

Using "Disk Cleanup" and "Disk Defragmenter" will also help keep your hard drive from running slowly or crapping out entirely for a long time.

Good advice. I have both MSE, and MalewareB on weekly schedules, just to be safe.

Thanks
