I know its big trip (time and $$), but if anyone has interest in the Moab Jeep Jamboree let me know.
I plan on leaving the weekend before and get there a couple days early to wheel before the Jamboree trails on the 22nd and 23rd of Oct.

In my opinion, Jeep Jamboree's are a waste of money. You (generally speaking) can utilize $200.00 – $300.00 in better ways than to pay that organization. But the concept of attending Moab is a great idea. Although I've never been there, I have learned the time to go is either during the Easter Jeep Safari when all the manufacturers, 4x4 magazines and such are in attendance – Or the week after (early / mid april) which many Jeep clubs do. Less commercial hoo-haw but a great time just the same. From what I've heard anyway.
I think anyone wanting to attend Moab (or any other destination) should do some research on the 'net to get a better idea of the trip(s) and the options available.

From my experience in Moab, your best bet is to go when there are no major events/clubs in town. Congestion of campgrounds/lodging/trails/everything is at a minimum, leaving the trails available for exploration as your own pace. The cost is significantly lower (not even factoring in 'Jamboree Fees').
Seriously… grab a friend or two, and go. Explore. That's how I went last year, and I had the best time. You don't need an organization for that. ;-)

Jayme, didn't you go during the Lost Jeeps Moab event in early April (just after the Easter Safari)?

Nope. I went for the week after the LOST Ouray trip last year – July '09. It's only 3-4 hours or so between Ouray and Moab. There were only a handful of us that went – 4 jeeps, if I remember correctly. It was a really good time. Would like to get back out there sometime within the next couple of years also.

I typically meet my mountain wheelers in late May/early June to wheel. Usually the weekend after EJS. I would never want to run Moab during one of those big events. We run with about 5-7 Jeeps and that's comfortable. Dealing with 40 on a trail that takes all day, gets old fast. It's nice to keep moving, especially when you're out in the blistering sun on the red rock for 6hrs or out on the trail till 11pm in a river valley doing a night run.

Interesting time frame. I am almost positive I will heading to north central Nevada (Silver Trails area) next May or June. I know a couple Jeepers from the Reno area and have a nephew who is a instructor in the Navy at NAS Fallon who knows a few guys from the area that would welcome me to come out and wheel with them. Anyway I will most likely be taking a minimum of 14 days (vacation time) and was thinking Moab / Ouray might be a possibility on the way back home?

Also, I think the best time for Moab, may not be the best time for the mountains. I thought Ouray was 9k feet? I do know when I run west in late May, there's still a ton of snow atop the Eisenhauer Pass which is over 11k. Vail pass at 10k also has snow. I know depending on the winter 1-2 ski resorts are still open near Eisenhauer. So I'm not sure in late May what Ouray or Black Bear pass would be like. A fall run, late Sept or early Oct. could be a great time to run in both Co and Ut.
I certainly wouldn't want to run to and from Utah in a jeep from here! Haulin in my Dodge is even taxing…

Obvoiusly everone has an opinion, re Jeep Jambo's which is what open forums are about. For those who have not been on a Jeep Jamboree here are a few positive observations (from doing 4 Jamborees) regarding the MOAB run.
Average number of Jeeps per Trail 8-12 , Number of trails typically offered 15+
Trails - Full range of difficulty, firm requirements put on vehicles s wanting to run the extreme trails.
Trail Guides - They really know this area, this is the real thing not an ORP , guides are helpfull to prevent serious damage and injury. Rock Crawling (on slickrock) is not like playing in the mud. (IMHO worth the registration fee)
Weather (Late Oct) - Typically prior to snow fall, mornings are cool, warming to the 70's during the day, lots of sun.
Major Sponser Support - (i.e. Terra-Flex corperate vehicle ran same trails we did)
I will agree that the Easter Jeep Safari and even the Labor Day runs (hosted by Red Rock 4-wheelers) can get crowded, the Moab Jeep Jamboree is typically a great group of folks who come back every year to do some serious crawling and test their rigs to the limit.
Respectivley Submitted,
