Join Down & Dirty Offroad this July 29-31 on the beautiful sandy shores of Lake Michigan for a weekend of playing in the Midwest’s biggest sandbox.
Where: Silver Lake State Park, Mears, MI
When: Friday July 29 thru Sunday July 31
Details: Download the flyer HERE
Directions: Click HERE
Requirements: In addition to official club off-road requirements participants will need a 10’ dune flag (available at park stores) and Michigan ORV permit sticker (available at Michigan Meijer stores or online HERE). A day pass for $4 to enter the park can be purchased at the park along with obtaining free entry voucher if park is busy. Voucher allows you to enter the park at a given time.
Accommodations: Official campground is the Hideaway Campground located at 9671 West Silver Lake Road, Mears, MI. Attendees are responsible for their own overnight stay and reservations are recommended. Call 231-873-4428 and tell Amanda you are with the club to get a site nearby. $35/night for rustic, $45/night for electric/water sites. Sites have 2 adult occupancy so buddy up to save $$!
Food: Attendees are responsible for their own food and beverages. Alcohol is allowed in the campground but Absolutely no alcoholic beverages will be allowed in the state park or while off-roading. The best way of handling food is bringing a dish to pass both nights for the cookout. Coolers are allowed in the ORV area.
If you would like to attend email info@ddoffroad.com or sign-up at a club meeting. All costs are paid by attendees at event time.

ORV Sticker
All vehicles that intend on being taken off-road are required to have an ORV sticker. You can order online ahead of time at mdnr-elicense.com for $16.
State Park 2 Day Pass & Vouchers
To enter the park you will need a weekend vehicle pass which is $12. We will purchase upon arrival at the park. Vouchers may required, depending on traffic to enter ORV area and are obtained at the voucher office for free prior to entering the park. The office is located just east of the ORV entrance on Fox Rd.
10’ dune flag
Flags can be purchased at any store at Silver Lake. They run about $15. They MUST be mounted in front of the front axle of your vehicle. You may need to fashion a bracket to hold the flag (flag bolt is ½” diameter), but some are available at the stores.
Airing Down
You may be used to airing down for off-roading, but at the dunes you want to let more air out of your tires to gain traction on the sand. You want a ‘balloon-like’ feel in your tires. PSI will vary from tire to tire, but normal ply tires would be good in the high teens to 20 PSI.

Meijer will issue them there. Just go to their sporting goods department where they will take your info and print out the ORV sticker for you…and they'll take your money too!

Actually, you'll be better off to get the License Online and only buy the sticker at Meijers.
Last year I applied for the license and bought my sticker at Meijers and it took roughly an 1hr until I had my stuff, since I had to wait on a person who was fimiliar with the license program. Had I had the ID, any fool in the sports/fishing department could have sold me the sticker in 5min.
Just follow this link and then click "I certify". Then fill out the short questionior and click "Obtain DNR ID" on the lower right.
Click OK on the Confirm popup. Then on the next page, just click "Shopping Cart" this will bring you to the checkout for the free Online printable DNR ID card. Print the card and present it when you buy your sticker at Meijers.
This will save you time. You could also buy the sticker online, but for that it may be to late.

Do the camp ground and park allow dogs? It looks like the camp ground does so long as you're not in a cottage.

Val Du used to be great when they opened the camping area 13 or so years ago. My friends were some of the first guests and every major holiday that we went they would ask if the rest were coming. Then 8 years ago the camp ground got too crazy and cut alot more of their land than they had originally put into the permit and got into trouble when one of the other more established campground was mostly empty and Val Du was busting at the seams. After a few years of fighting everyone around there they sold to someone new and from what I've seen on Great Lakes 4x4 they are crazier that Yelllowstone or whatever that Yogi place is in town with any noise past 8:00 p.m.

I have never camped there being that I have un patrolled non public places to camp while I'm there. I have had great times there at concerts and stuff.
Just offering some suggestions while you guys are up there. I think its worth checking out if you like beer, pool, and music.

That is correct. The dogs must be on a leash in the campground.

FYI – Dune Ready Vouchers for Saturday and Sunday can be obtained on Friday starting at noon untill 11pm.
If you are trailering to the ORV area you need a Parking Lot Voucher.
I am planning on getting a Dune Ready Voucher Friday for Sat/Sun, hopefully the 9-11am time slot.
More info:
http://www.michigan.gov/dnr/0,…..ml#voucher
I talked to a guy at the voucher station and he said the line for picking up vouchers can start as early as 6:30 am, so this is why I am recommending picking it up Friday.
Last year we had no wait to get Vouchers but it was earlier in the year and the weather was poor.

We have to cancel. :(
Oz got himself a poison ivy rash and I am not sure if it is smart to be in the heat with him untill it
gets a bit better. Wife is getting meds and he'll see a doc again tomorrow to see if there is improvement.
I hope the rest of you all have fun. I canged our reservation at hide-a-way for the 9th-11th of Se
because of the non-refundable deposit. Maybe someone who can't make it this time will join us then.

Good see everyone even if it was only for a few minutes. CJ broke again, turned out to be junk in the fuel line. Gonna have to get a new tank as some point. Really can't wait for the rebuild this fall.
Jenny and I hung out at the beach the rest of the day and climbed a light house with Tim and sarah. Good times.
