Need your thoughts, All.  Both options are going to be roughly the same in price for my TJ with my 31's a 2" suspension lift and 1" BL.  I do ok in current fashion with the mild mods I have but it's time for a more serious upgrade.

The BIG question is ………..Tummy tuck with SYE…. or…. Manual FRONT OX Locker?

Either one of these would have been VERY helpful in the past… Doing both of them at the same time is not an option at this point.

What'cha guys think??

You should have posted this much earlier. Then you could have ordered everything, shipped to Justin's House to do the install tomorrow Laugh

Personally, I really want to do the TT with the SYE/CV kit.  After hearing all of the stuff under my stocker get banged around at the cliffs, I want more protection.  I think my next couple of mods are going to be more skid plates, Oil Pan, Steering Box maybe additional Gas Tank and I want the TT with SYE so I can do a bigger lift in the future.  I know that I will have to buy a new CV Driveshaft when I lift higher, but that's what tom woods is for.

Maybe further down the road I'll do lockers, but I think the TT is the way to go.

If you plan on keeping your lift and tires the same I would go for a locker, because It will get you further down the trail then a TT and SYE.  If you want to upgrade to a bigger lift and up the tire size, I would go the SYE route because you would most likely have to do that anyway.

I personally would choose the locker, then you can just drag your tcase over everything.  Plus, I hate the one wheel peal.

Lockers will be the most bang for your buck!!  With a SYE you will need to get a new driveshaft if you lift it anymore anyway, wait until you find your final ride height and do it then.  All of my vehicles are modded in this order:  Skids, winch, lockers, low gears, lift and tires, evreything else.  You will be amazed at what a vehicle on 31s and locked will do!!

If you do a front locker, make sure you carry a set of spare u joints and axle shafts!!!

Just my 2 cents…. Not running a lift my choice would be a TT and adjustable upper rear arms. But you have a lift so…… That is a good question, Locker would be really nice but I feel that you don't always need a locker on all trails.

My vote= TT.

When I bought my Rubi (a year ago), everyone said first mod should be to replace the factory shovel with a TT.  Then again, my Jeep came stock with lockers.  I have to do this but I really need to because those factory t-case skids shovel up mud like a landscaper on steroids.

Can't climb without traction.  Just think how many times you lift a wheel when you're on the trails.  It will be interesting to see what you choose.

I have been asking myself this question too. Have you decided? How do you feel about your decision?

It's cheaper to do the locker over TT, trust me.   They both have their merits but I think I would do a front locker first.

I added up everything minus shipping that it has cost me for the TT.   This does not include misc bolt, nuts, and other consumable items.  It also does not include the fricken too short Currie rear upper arms for my lift.

Granted you may or may not need to do everything I did, it all depends on your TJ and how much lift you have and that all TJ's are not created equal.  It also depends on what skid you buy and what trans you have.

FYI – I have a 4 inch suspension and 1.25 inch body lift with manual trans, and I went with the Ultra high clearance 1" skid.

UCF Ultra high clearance AL skid $320

Rokmen Rear upper control arms $300

Midwest driveline rear CV driveshaft $375

AEV shock shifter $130

JB conversion SYE $169

JKS Body lift $125

Brown Dog Offroad Ultraflex 1" MML $110

Novak NP231 Cable Shifter $175

                Total $1704

This should be all that I need to finish, famous last words…..

Yeah as Doug stated, not all Jeeps (especially TJ's) are created equal.  With that said, there are various TT's as well as TT's from the same mfg that don't always require the same issues to install.  Some mfg's make 2 or 3 different styles of TT's while some others also make TT's that will only require a spacer kit if your TJ does not have a BL (body lift).

If I've learned one thing while doing 'homework' on TT's (and other skids) is that the aluminum guys aren't as honest about their products as the steel guys.  Yeah aluminum is lighter and if weight is a issue for you, than by all means I've learned "then go with aluminum) but did you know aluminum has a tendency to stick to rocks when steel will slide over easier?  My source = JP Magazine.  I never realized this.  I think weight savings is a great idea for any Jeep (especially a CJ or Wrangler) but the real reason some of these guys designed aluminum was for rock climbing competition weight savings.  On the other hand, if roll over (or body roll) is a concern OR having the best low COG (center of gravity) is something important to you — then the weight of steel is your best option.  Again, my source – JP Magazine AND a few 4X4 aftermarket stores / sellers.

Just what you wanted to read – more to consider when buying skids.   Laugh
