So after rebuilding most of my brake system, I went to bleed the brakes 3 different times and kept ending up with a soft pedal.  After searching for air leaks around the wheel cylinder, I decided to check the brand new master cylinder.  Turns out something was up and no fluid was flowing to the rear.  I removed the cylinder and bench bleed it for a second time and tried it again.  Still no flow.  Ended up taking the master cylinder back and exchanging it for a new one, bench bleed it for about a half hour (those bubbles take forever to get out) and then started to bleed… success.

I gravity bleed my system for the first time and I must say that was the easiest, coolest way to bleed brakes.  I used to use the old two man pedal pump method, but found gravity bleeding to be far more effective.  Plus, you can do it with one person, and its cool to watch all the bubbles travel up the tube.  It also helped to tap the wheel cylinders with a rubber mallet to help release some of the air bubbles.

Hope this helps some of you on your next brake job.  Remember, just because a part is brand new doesn't mean its a good part.

I recently had a brand new Wilwood Caliper for my ATV that the outside piston wouldn't move.

I figured out when they machined it, they didn't drill the fluid passage out all the way so no fluid could get to the piston.

So I drilled it, about a 1/4 inch more and bing!!  It worked!
