I'm trying to decide on where to mount my CB antenna.  I have a cargo rack so that rules out a tail light mount.  And I want to minimize how many holes I drill in the body.  So I'm trying to decide between the kind that mounts between the hood and the fender and the one on the tire carrier.

If I go with the spare tire mount, the antenna is going to hit the rack and it might hit pretty hard if it gets clipped by a branch or something.  So, my question is: is that going to damage the antenna?

Get a Wilson Flex ant, they are meant for offroading and very durable.

What kind of vehicle do you have? If you have a cherokee or grand cherokee a tail light mount is still good, I have one on my driver's side tail light. So even with a roof rack you would still be able to mount one. If you have a wrangler with a rack, I'm lost cuz real Jeeps have unibodies, lol. Doug's suggestion is a good one as well. Also if you get a good CB antenna then having it hit trees and such you wont have to worry about it.

I use a tail light mount on my wrangler, but i dont have a roof rack. Whatever mount you choose make sure it is well grounded. Welcome to the board.

Actually, a whip style antenna is better than any fiberglass stick regarding damage on trails.  With that said, I utilize a fiberglass antenna on a bumper mount and haven't had issues on the trails –  So far…
