I was watching this video of a Bronco when out of nowhere appeared this CJ-7 with a CJ-8 half cab on it. What do you guys think? besides the roll bar modifications I think it might be pretty easy to pull off. Pro.. Cons????
Side note: Check out the old mans beard in the passenger seat. awesome Chris Cringle style.
Yeah I'm totally digging that, I think you should do it. I like the paint job also. You should do a whole desert kind of style on paint job on your CJ bro.
That was a cool video. I like the CJ-8 half cab too. But I would be remiss if I didn't say that 9 out of 10 camo paint jobs I've seen in the civilian world are lame. Not sure what your skills are with a spray gun / air brush, but you can't go wrong with OD (olive drab) paint. Then again, that Bronco (and the paint job on it) is really cool too.
I was going to say didn't Extreme 4x4 put a CJ-8 top on a CJ-7 but thinking back they put a CJ-7 top on a CJ-8. Would you put the bulkhead in to close the cab?
Yeah, Xtreme did do a 7 cab on a Scrambler. That would be cool too, but every time I close my eyes and open them I still have a CJ-7, maybe if I squint really, really hard it might happen one of these days. (I really like those scramblers)
Brainstorming here: Yes, I would definitely enclose the cab. I would have to totally scrap my roll bar as it is right now. Then do some sort of interior roll bar, but maybe make it removable so I could slide my modified YJ cage back in if I later decide its not for me, or if I want options. I don't know….. It just caught my eye and I thought it might be cool.
As for paint. I'm not too concerned with it and I'm pretty content with my flat outdoor house paint. The tub isn't in the best shape and it would be a waste of time as it is right now. I have body panels peeling off, and rockers splitting away from the body, so I don't need to bring attention to them with a nice paint job. Plus, I agree with Jerry, 9 out of 10 camo paint job look like crap. That one in the video looked okay though.
Why scrap your existing cage, why not cut the top bars at roughly the roof and just add a new set of verticals? Or better yet, just add in a new set of downtubes inside the cab and use a set of those removable tube inserts to add in the back section of rollcage when the roof is off. I think I know a guy that has a bulkhead and possibly a roof for a scrambler.
My roommates YJ has it. It's a neat mod, but you would have to figure out what to do with the cage. CJ and early YJ rollbars would not hold up to a roll if you remove the back pillars.
