What is Down & Dirty Offroad?
Down & Dirty Offroad (a.k.a. DD Offroad and DDO) is one of Chicagoland’s newest off-road clubs with members from all over the tri-state area. Down & Dirty Offroad is a registered non-profit organization with the State of Illinois and ensures all club funds are allocated solely to club expendatures.
Mission
Engage all off-roaders alike in the Chicagoland area and provide them with a fun, social atmosphere while promoting social responsibility with a non know-it-all attitude. Drive open discussions and increase general overall knowledge of the off-road sport.
History
Re-founded in 2009 by the Three Wise Men of Matt Evans, John Kurylak and Tim Hines, DDO is on a mission to create a laid-back and fun club for off-roaders of all makes and models in the Chicagoland area. The Three Wise Men hosted the first annual Season Kickoff Meet & Greet in April 2009 signing up the first six club members and have seen continued growth in membership since.
DDO was originally founded in 2002 in Grand Rapids, MI where the club had upwards of 30 members. Club management moved out of state in 2005 and the club disbanded. The DDO brand and vision was re-invented in 2009.
Management
DDO does not have a management hierarchy including a president, instead the club is managed by the three club managers of John Kurylak, Matt Evans and Tim Hines. Known to club members as the Three Wise Men, each handles administrative club responsibilities including event planning, website management, marketing, club discounts, etc. In the idea of keeping management simple, final club decisions are decided by a 2/3 rule of the managers. Members can bring up any issue to the managers and they will decide how to handle it. Most club issues will be resolved by majority vote at club meetings.

Events & Meetings
Promising at least one off-road event per month and monthly meetings, DDO is a very active club. DDO’s most frequented off-road park is The Cliffs in Marseilles, IL because it is closest in proximity to the Chicago area, however many over-night weekend trips are planned during warmer months. Visit the calendar page or see the upcoming events to the right for more details. You can also call the DDO Events Hotline at (224)366-7506 and listen to the recorded message to get event details when you dont have access to a computer.
When on a trail ride, DDO runs on CB channel 22 at all times. Channel 22’s meaning is derived from the club initials of “double deuce” derived to “DD.” The only “dubs” you’ll ever see DDO on is this channel, so look for us there during club events.
Meetings are held once per month on the second Saturday from 4-6pm (subject to time change) at Paps Bar & Grill at 1904 S. Elmhurst Rd. in Mt. Prospect. DDO members receive food specials during the meeting. Meetings that fall on trip weekends will often be moved to a different weekend or will be held at the trip venue, not at Paps.
Social Responsibility
DDO takes part in fundraisers like the Crystal Lake 4-Wheel Drive Fest and the Toys for Tots 4×4 Parade. DDO also is a member of the TreadLightly organization and participates in the Illinois Adopt-A-Highway program. The club is open to any social ideas from its members and is all about giving back to the community.
DDO members are also strongly encouraged to offer advice and help to each other on the forum or in person. During the season members often get together and host ‘build parties’ when work is needed on a member’s rig. Visit the Technical Forum to quiz members on any technical issue you may have.
Membership
DDO membership is easy to obtain! We welcome members with any make or model of trucks or SUVs that are willing to off-road. Simply read our club bylaws, fill out or membership application, pay your yearly dues and you are in!
